Nehkak Nichii Na’trodandak (Mooseskin Handball)
Mooseskin handball was a favourite pastime for Dinjii Zhuh of all ages, men and women, girls and boys.
The game used a ball made of mooseskin and moose hair, which is about 1 and one-half to 2 inches in diameter.
The game is played, usually with the men and boys against the women and girls. There were no rules except that the ball had to be kept in the air by hitting it with one hand. It could not be caught or held. The obiect of the game is for the men to keep the ball away from the women.
Traditionally, the women are noted for being very rough on the men - often throwing them down to take away the ball. No scores are kept. Everyone has a lot of fun and laughter, and the game could last for hours during the long summer days.
