Dinjii Zhuh Games
This web page is a digitized version of Dinjii Zhuh Dene Games: Northern Games '79 created by James Ross.
This booklet's main purpose is to show some of the Dinjii Zhuh Dene games, and also share them with others as they have done with us.
There are a total of seven games that are explained very simply and shown with sketches. These games or the booklet as a whole, would not have been possible without the help of the elders in each of the communities, who continually put up with my questions to make this booklet a reality. I cannot thank you enough to show my appreciation for what you have done. Also I would like to take this opportunity to thank William Bonnetplume for the great work he put into this booklet through his sketches that truly shows northern talent at its best.
I hope this will be an education for all and more importantly the recognition of the truly rich culture we possess.
- James M. Ross
Conclusion
This booklet was made possible through a study "Research and Documentation of Traditional Native games" which is presently going on in the Delta and Northern Yukon. The objective of this study is to compile a booklet oh the traditional games that the Dinjii Zhuh Dene have played. This booklet is being developed with the elders for use today. With the help of everyone, this booklet should be available in the near future.
